Yarra Valley House

Set in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, this home overlooks vineyards with sweeping views to the mountains. Just seven years after a major renovation, the owners found it no longer suited their growing family. Their brief called for a self-contained guest suite, a private master retreat, more space for three energetic boys, and refreshed kitchens, bathrooms and storage.

Working largely within the footprint, interventions were strategic: the first floor extended for the guest suite, the ground-floor garden enclosed to double the rumpus room, and the master suite reoriented to capture vineyard views.

The interior palette drew from the surrounding landscape – translated into an organic aesthetic of saddle-tan leather, plaster, slate, cedar and sandblasted timber. Modern gestures like graphic tiles and a terracotta brick screen play against country classics like louvred robe doors, meat-safe mesh cupboards, sandblasted oak vanities and concrete baths. Texture and layering were paramount in this interior, with the artisan’s hand evident in every detail.
