Mid Century House

After discovering this mid-century gem at the end of a cul-de-sac, our client was so captivated by its timeless character, that, after some Sherlock Holmes-style sleuthing, he convinced the reluctant owners to part with it.

Our approach was to leverage the abundance of natural light and unique 360-degree views by focusing the plan around the internal courtyard. We demolished old divisions that wrapped around the courtyard space, creating cohesion between the public spaces. A large central fireplace now commands attention, separating the living and dining areas, while an oversized breakfast nook in the kitchen has become a lively gathering spot. The bedroom wing now flows to a master suite, oriented to capture views of a second internal garden. 

Embracing an understated Palm Springs vibe – while steering clear of mid-century pastiche, we selected teak-stained oak evoking the ‘60s, paired with leathered granite, lush green marble and expanses of alabaster white to amplify the light.
