Emerald Terrace

Emerald Terrace is a classic double-fronted Victorian terrace reimagined through the layering of old and new furniture, art and object. The clients had completed a major renovation but delayed furnishing, leaving the home bare and unused.

Our brief centred on balancing public and private zones – practical yet elevated to honour the home’s grandeur while softening its formality for modern living. The ground-floor sitting room was reconfigured into a second living area with a distinctly nocturnal mood, its grey walls and sophisticated furnishings contrasting with brighter, family-oriented zones nearby. Upstairs, bedrooms were furnished for comfort and the library became a movie room, reshaping the house for gathering and conversation.

The trick in a formal home is to engender a relaxed and cohesive interior whilst respecting the historic integrity of the original architecture. This project creates an original dialogue through the juxtaposition of old favourites with new classics, from mid-century through to the iconic.

Our design challenge was to give this boom-time terrace a youthful spirit that felt modern and easy.

“Putting the finishing touches on a renovation has always been difficult for us. Chelsea and her team have created spaces that turned our house into a true home.”
