Tasked with unifying a cherished Edwardian home disrupted by flawed contemporary intervention, Elsternwick House tells the story of two halves becoming whole. What began as a modest kitchen upgrade evolved into a transformative reworking of the property.
The original front rooms retained their charm but felt disconnected from the rear extension. Seamless oak flooring now carries the eye from entry hall to garden, creating flow and continuity. Historic detailing was revived rather than reinvented: pressed-metal ceilings restored with a high-gloss finish, and curved windows reframed with restrained finishes, allowing garden views to take centre stage. A crisp white palette provided calm, clarity and cohesion across old and new.
From this quiet backdrop, expressive elements emerge—tumbled brass hardware, refined joinery and Elba marble used in contrasting finishes. Unexpected moments, like a Kelly Wearstler wallpapered powder room, infuse individuality, while curated furniture and art complete a sophisticated, characterful sanctuary for the clients’ nomadic lifestyle.
