Temperature Design, A New CHDC Favourite
Tucked into the backstreets of Collingwood, in a fantastic warehouse space is another one of Melbourne’s design industry gems – Temperature Design. After finding our way there late last week, we knocked back a strong coffee & chocolate treat before getting stuck into looking at all the fabulous pieces from Temperature house brand – a great range of furniture staples, Jonathan Adler – for that quirky, fresh & colourful twist on everything & Ercol Furniture – the most beautifully crafted wood furniture made the way it should be.
Here are our top picks;
Not everything from JA suits the kind of work we do, but we particularly loved the rider bench, think ottomans, the meurice two tier table, the hans pedestal table as well as the now famous pottery. Our picks are the fontana vase  & overscaled horse bowl. Heaps more on the JA website. I’ve been quietly coveting the large horn sculpture.

The Horse Bowl
From Temperature, we were taken with the walker side table in oak or ebonised for grown ups  or in fun colours for more playful areas. The boris chair was also a fabulous overscaled armchair on a swivel base with a 1m dia footprint, perfect for watching TV or hanging out. Also worth a mention is the forrester table, the walnut version great for pairing with your classic eames lounge & ottoman. Very cool new thing are the lamegadina outdoor lights, great for hanging up outside or illuminating the end of a long hall.

 On the top floor was the Ercol range full to the brim with the gorgeous Butterfly chair in fabulous colours hung up on the peg board – loved the peg board too! An instant classic is the love seat dip dyed in orange or blue – the most gorgeous piece for practically anywhere. Also fabulous is the chairmakers rocking chair in ‘on trend’ black & the Treviso desk – for a compact piece that should fit in any space. For the oldie but still a goodie released in the 1950s you cant go past the studio couch - I do love the red but imagine this in a soft print or washed out colour with the natural elm frame or a classic paper bag linen on the black version. Click here for some background reading sent to me from Ercol themselves via twitter James Ryan of the Edward Barnsley Trust has designed some recent ranges for them.
